Small toys IN BIG photos
The subjects on this page were chosen by my 5 year old son. These photographs of toy figures were taken with macro and prime lenses using an APSC camera. Some used strobe and led lighting, others were shot in natural light conditions.
Mutant Turtle
This serious chap was shot with a single LED ‘matrix’ light with a macro lens. The simple background grey/black background adds some depth to the image.
Star Wars figure
This 6cm figure was shot to create a touch of drama. He was actually on a very standard fireplace with natural evening light coming through a window. A 30mm lens was used. Some post-processing enhanced the image.
Storm trooper
Again using a black ‘infinity’ background and a single led matrix light, this Lego storm trooper is only about 2cm tall. The macro lens was used with a narrow appature to increase the depth of field, keeping most of the figure in focus. The background colours were easily changed in post processing.

Kylo Ren
Looking mean and moody, this little figure was shot against a black background with a strobe light. A macro lens was used giving a shallow depth of field and a high level of close-up detail.
